Sid Maurer’s long career in the art world began in the 1970s, when he spent weekends playing the trumpet in Jazz clubs, as it was a time when the music and Pop Art business exploded, he was hired as assistant art director at Columbia Records in New York. Maurer was working on the design of album covers and promotional material for popular artists of the time. His co-worker then was a young artist by the name of Andy Warhol, and together they began a relationship of collaboration and friendship.
This is how he began to develop the CELEBRITY ICONS collection, with creative portraits of celebrities and icons, both classic and modern, from different industries such as film, music, sports or science, a collection of creative portraits of celebrities and icons from all times, among which we can mention Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Liz Taylor, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Albert Einstein, Michael Jordan, Justin Bieber …
Through these very personal creations, he tries to capture their lives in a luminous way, with a special brush technique, capturing frozen moments that shine with joy. The result is a unique blend: the tempered passion of a painter and the compositional vision of a graphic designer.
